OUR MISSION: To support organizations in providing quality afterschool, summer, and expanded learning experiences so that Vermont’s children and youth have the opportunities, skills, and resources they need to become healthy, productive members of society.

WHO WE ARE: A statewide nonprofit dedicated to supporting and sustaining innovative learning opportunities outside of the school day.

HOW WE DO IT: 1) Provide professional development to increase the quality and build a strong workforce in Vermont’s afterschool, summer, and expanded learning programs. 2) Create a system of statewide, regional, and local partnerships to increase influence and efficacy. 3) Promote policies and research that will sustain new and existing out-of-school time programs in Vermont.

WHY WE DO IT: We believe that young people make a better Vermont and all children and youth in Vermont have the right to opportunities that will help them grow into happy and healthy adults.

OUR HISTORY: Vermont Afterschool is the lead organization in Vermont for issues concerning afterschool programs, out-of-school time, summer learning, and expanded learning opportunities. The organization grew out of a multi-year project called the Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence that started under the supervision of the Champlain Valley Educator Development Center (“CVEDC”) in Colchester, Vermont, 2009-2013. In 2013, Vermont Afterschool became its own nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) status and board of directors.

Vermont Afterschool is a recognized organization and statewide afterschool network at the national level as well. As the Mott-funded statewide afterschool network for Vermont, Vermont Afterschool is part of a nationwide coalition with representation from all 50 states. Vermont Afterschool is also Vermont’s state-affiliate for the National AfterSchool Association (NAA) further expanding our connections and stakeholder base.
