Lights! Camera! Learning!

The Lights! Camera! Learning! video vignette competition, a cornerstone project at the Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence, took a fresh look afterschool programs and asked programs how they could best document and record activities, opportunities, and programs that engaged children/youth learning in new and exciting ways.

Since we started the project in 2009, over 50 videos have been submitted from programs from all parts of the state, many of them created and produced by students in the programs. Working with Luke Stafford of Mondo Mediaworks, we’ve taken video footage from the last three years of Lights! Camera! Learning! competitions and created this compilation video for all of Vermont that captures all the wonderful activities and opportunities happening in afterschool and summer programs throughout the state:

The Lights! Camera! Learning! competition wrapped up in 2012, but you can access the winning videos from the past three years listed below. All programs highlighted are Vermont-based afterschool programs deemed exceptional through a competitive judging process.

We are thankful for the tremendous support from Vermont politicians for Lights! Camera! Learning! In 2010, Senator Patrick Leahy created this video introduction to the project setting the stage for this creative and engaging Vermont initiative:

Lights! Camera! Learning! also builds resources around specific types of programs captured through multiple Lights! entries.  These video compilations and supporting documentation are again aimed at replicating best practices, but are framed around broader focus areas than specific Lights! award-winning videos.
