Child & Youth Development Workshops

The workshops that address child and youth development are designed to give staff the information they need to understand the characteristics, abilities, and needs of different age groups. Examples of trainings that focus on child and youth development include:

Social Development in School Age Children
Explore the asset-building mindset for working with school age children. Develop awareness of key components of maturity, perspective-taking and confidence, and discover methods of observing social skills, with an eye to meeting the diverse range of supports and challenges for children ages 5-12, in a variety of settings. Practice scenarios, active listening/role-playing. (2 hrs.)

Working with Multi-Age Groups
Sometimes it can be challenging to plan for K-6th grades in the same program. Find out how to meet the needs of multi-age groups in this informative workshop. Learn how to structure activities so that the needs of all ages of children are met and maximize the positive benefits of having different age groups interacting together. (2 hrs.)

Engaging Older Children:  Working with Ages 9-12
This workshop will focus on understanding the needs of older school age children as well as learning to program for these needs on a daily basis. Participants will receive program tips, including a look at activities, events, clubs and community service projects that 9-12 year olds find fun and exciting. Come unravel the mystery of this age group. (2 hrs.)
