Supporting Success for All Students
Voices for Vermont’s Children recently released a policy brief highlighting the important role that quality afterschool programs play in supporting student success in Vermont. The report is called “Vermont Afterschool Programs: Supporting Success for All Students.”
The afterschool report builds upon an earlier document, Bridging the Gap, that recommended a two-pronged approach to eliminating the poverty-based achievement gap in Vermont: expanding the capacity of schools to create systems of academic excellence, and providing supports for families struggling to manage life in poverty.
The Voices’ afterschool report draws on data and findings from national studies identifying the best practices in afterschool and lays out key characteristics of high-quality programs. The report also uses a series of five case studies to go into further depth on strategies and supports that Vermont programs have found to be particularly successful in supporting student learning after school during the school year and over the summer.
